Abstract: In order to overcome the inherent disadvantages of the low-molecular-weight photoinitiators, polyester-type polymere photoinitiators containing side-chain thioxanthone and in-chain coinitiator amine were synthesized through step polymerization of 2 -(2, 3-dihydroxy )propoxy -thioxanthone (HPTX), dichloride and N-methyl diethanolamine(MDEA). The thioxanthone and coinitiator amine structures were successfully introduced into the backbones of polymeric photoinitiators confirmed by FT-IR and 1H-NMR analysis. Uv-vis spectra showed that the macromolecular chain gave no obvious effect on the maximal absorption of thioxanthone moieties. Photopolymerization of polyester acrylate resin(PEA), initiated by polyester-type polymeric thioxanthone photoinitiators, was studied through photo differential scanning calorimetry( photo-DSC ). The results showed that the macromolecular chain had significant impact on efficiency of the photopolymerization.
