Paint & Coatings Industry (ISSN 0253-4312, CN 32-1554/TQ) was founded in 1959. It is a monthly journal governed and sponsored by CNOOC Changzhou Paint & Coatings Industry Research Institute Co., Ltd., and edited and published by the Editorial Office of Paint & Coatings Industry. As the longest-standing professional publication in China's coatings industry, it integrates academic, informative, practical, and industry-focused content, significantly contributing to the advancement of China's paint and coatings sector.
Paint & Coatings Industry closely integrates scientific research with production practices, emphasizing both advancement and dissemination while incorporating domestic and international technologies. The journal effectively conveys scientific and technological information related to the paint, coatings, and associated industries. In recent years, Paint & Coatings Industry has been widely recognized for its technical leadership, broad acceptance, and strong practicality. It has been acknowledged by several authoritative organizations as a Chinese Core Journal, a key magazine of China technology, an RCCSE China Core Academic Journal, a source journal for the Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD), and a journal included in the Chinese Core Journals (Selection) Database, earning its reputation as a rare "five-core" journal in the field of scientific publications. In addition, Paint & Coatings Industry has actively developed a series of branded conferences in recent years. It now hosts nearly ten professional technical seminars and training sessions annually, attracting nearly 3,000 industry professionals from hundreds of companies annually for exchange and learning.

Development History
September 1959: The Coatings Science and Technology Information Center of the Ministry of Chemical Industry (now the National Coatings Industry Information Center) was established in Tianjin, and Paint & Coatings Industry was launched under the title Paint & Coatings Technology Report. It was published by the North China Chemical Design Institute of the Ministry of Chemical Industry (the predecessor of the current Changzhou Paint & Coatings Industry Research Institute).
1961: Paint & Coatings Technology Report was renamed Paint & Coatings Technical Information and distributed internally.
1963: Renamed Chemical Technology Information – Paint & Coatings Professional Edition and officially released in China.
1967–1969: The journal was temporarily changed to an internal publication titled Paint & Coatings Technical Bulletin.
1970: The publication was officially renamed Paint & Coatings Industry and published as a bimonthly journal.
1971: The journal was suspended for one year.
1972: The journal resumed publication.
1981: Paint & Coatings Industry began distribution both domestically and internationally, with circulation reaching 13,800 copies by 1986.
1995: The journal underwent a redesign and began printing in the standard large 16mo format.
1998: The publication frequency was changed from bimonthly to monthly, with 46 pages of content. By this time, Paint & Coatings Industry had become one of the primary Chinese journals indexed by the American CA and British WSCA.
2001: The journal was honored as a “Double-Effect Journal” by the National Press and Publication Administration.
2003: The content expanded from 46 to 58 pages.
2004: The content expanded again from 58 to 64 pages. That same year, the journal was recognized as a “China Scientific and Technical Papers and Citations” (a key magazine of China technology) by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China. It was also included in the Guide to the Core Journals of China published by Peking University Library and other institutions.
2007: The content expanded from 64 to 72 pages.
2008: Recognized as an "RCCSE China Core Academic Journal" by the China Academic Journal Evaluation Committee and the Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation of Wuhan University.
2009: Indexed as a source journal for the Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD) by the National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
December 2009: Hosted a grand celebration in Shanghai to mark the 50th anniversary of Paint & Coatings Industry. Nearly 300 prominent industry figures from over 200 companies gathered to celebrate the journal's 50-year milestone.
2010: The content expanded from 72 to 80 pages.
2010: Paint & Coatings Industry established a partnership with Coatings and Finishing Technology in Taiwan, launching a traditional Chinese version of Paint & Coatings Industry in the Taiwan region.
2011: Launched the electronic version of Paint & Coatings Industry.
2014: Launched the official WeChat account for Paint & Coatings Industry.
2015: The content expanded from 80 to 88 pages.
2019: Celebrated the 60th anniversary of Paint & Coatings Industry with a series of events, including the publication of the 60th Anniversary Commemorative Issue and the 60th Anniversary Technical Special Issue.
From 2020 onward: Selected for three consecutive years in the World Journal Clout Index (WJCI) Report.

In 1981, to align with the pace of China's reform and opening-up, Paint & Coatings Industry obtained an advertising operation license and began offering advertising services. Over the past two decades, the journal has strictly adhered to advertising laws and regulations, creating a positive marketing environment for the coatings industry while recommending trustworthy companies and promoting the latest domestic and international products to its readers.
In 2004, on the 45th anniversary of Paint & Coatings Industry, 21 renowned domestic and international advertisers, selected by readers, received first, second, and third prizes for the "Most Popular Advertisement" award. This initiative gained significant industry attention and further strengthened advertisers' trust and support.
In 2008, Paint & Coatings Industry provided advertising services to 156 clients, representing 208 domestic and international companies. A total of 969 advertisements were published for enterprises from 16 countries and regions.
In 2009, despite the global financial crisis, the journal’s advertising business continued to grow steadily. Throughout the year, Paint & Coatings Industry published 1,102 advertisements for 25 enterprises from 8 countries, 4 enterprises from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, and 122 enterprises from 18 provinces across mainland China — an increase of 13.7% compared to the previous year.

Paint & Coatings Industry leverages its media platform to
co-organize influential technical exchange conferences and large-scale coatings
exhibitions in collaboration with relevant departments and organizations. These
events have not only promoted technological progress and development in China's

In 1982, the World Paint & Coatings Industry Advanced Technology Introduction Conference was held in Xiamen, Fujian.
In 1986, the journal participated in the 1st Asia Coatings Conference (1st AC) held in Chiba, Tokyo.
In 1992, the journal co-hosted the 4th Asia Coatings and Finishing Technology Exchange Conference (4th AC) in Beijing and organized the Coatings Additives Seminar in Wuxi.
In 1993, the journal jointly organized the Coatings Equipment and Raw Materials Seminar in Beihai, Guangxi, with the Coatings and Finishing Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society.
In 1995, the journal hosted the Sino-US Coatings Technology Exchange Conference in Shanghai, the International Coatings and Finishing Technology and Economic Cooperation Conference in Nanjing and participated in the 1st Asia-Pacific Coatings and Finishing Technology Exchange Conference (1st APCF) in Kanagawa, Tokyo, Japan.
In 1996, the journal held the Automatic Color Matching Instrument Promotion Conference in Shanghai.
In 1997, the 2nd Asia-Pacific Coatings and Finishing Technology Conference (2nd APCF) was held in Suzhou.
In 2000, the journal organized the Cross-Strait Coatings Publications Exchange Meeting in Guangzhou. Additionally, the journal participated in a study tour organized by the China National Chemical Information Center, visiting Europe to gain insights into advanced research, editing, and exhibition practices in countries such as Germany and France.
In 2003, the journal visited Taiwan for an academic exchange with Coatings and Finishing Technology magazine.
Starting in 2004, the journal increased its efforts in organizing professional conferences, successfully hosting nearly 70 specialized events over the following years. Awards and Honors
In 1981, the journal was recognized as an Outstanding Publication by the Ministry of Chemical Industry and received the Third Prize for Outstanding Publications.
In 1988 and 1994, it was awarded the Second Prize and Third Prize, respectively, for Scientific and Technological Progress by the Ministry of Chemical Industry.
In 1997, it won the Third Prize in the Second National Excellent Journal Evaluation.
In 1998 and 1999, it consecutively received the Second and Third Jiangsu Excellent Journal Awards. In 1998, it also earned the Second Prize for Cover Design.
In 2002, 2006, 2011, and 2015, the journal consecutively received the First Prize for Outstanding Journals in the Petroleum and Chemical Industry during the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth evaluations. Notably, in both 2002 and 2006, it also received the First Prize for Advertising and the First Prize for Distribution, making it the only chemical industry journal to achieve all three awards in those years.
In 2004, it won two First Prizes, three Second Prizes, and one Third Prize in the Fifth National Petroleum and Chemical Industry Outstanding Information Achievement Awards. The same year, it was nominated for the Second Jiangsu Journal Matrix Outstanding Journal Award.
