Abstract

[Objective/Significance] This work aims to fabricate high-performance waterborne anticorrosive coating systems, thereby promoting the sustainable development of waterborne coatings across the entire life cycle.[Analysis/Discussion/Progress] In this paper, recent advances in the design and modification of waterborne resins for anticorrosion coatings, the selection and functionalization of eco-friendly pigments and fillers, and the synthesis and application of novelfunctional additives were reviewed. Current research on waterborne self-stratifying,multifunctional, and smart anticorrosive coatings was summarized. Furthermore, life cycle assessment(LCA) was adopted to evaluate the sustainable development advantages of anticorrosive coatings during theconstruction, service and disposal stages.[Conclusion/Prospect] Through the active-passive synergistic multi-protection mechanism, waterborne anticorrosive coatings were expected to achieve high corrosion resistance, extended service life and multifunctional integration, thereby meeting the anticorrosion demands under harsh environments.
