Abstract

[Objective]To develop a multifunctional photocurable coating with integrated flame-retardant and antimicrobial properties.[Methods]Phytic acid was modified with 2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate(DEM) at varying dosage ratios and UV-cured into coatings. Material characterization employed FT-IR, 1H NMR,and XPS. The photopolymerization behavior, basic properties, thermal stability, flame retardancy, flame retardant mechanism, and antibacterial performance of the coatings were systematically investigated.[Results] With the DEM dosage increased, the conversion rate of carbon carbon double bonds in the coating decreased, hardness increased, flexibility decreased, thermal stability increased, ultimate oxygen index decreased, and antibacterial performance was not significantly affected. The prepared coating mainly promoted carbon formation through phytic acid to achieve UL94V-0 level flame retardancy, while achieving 100% antibacterial activity against both E. coli and S. aureus.[Conclusion]Photocurable phytic acid-based coatings integrate outstanding flame-retardant and antimicrobial properties, offering an effective approach for the fabrication of multifunctional bio-based UV-curable protective coatings.
