Fluorinated Polynorbornene Organogels with Self-healing and Anti-icing Capability

Abstract

[Objective] To address the issue of poor mechanical properties of antifreeze organogels.[Methods] This work designed a series of self-healing norbornene-based fluorinated organogels(NDFG)through ring-opening metathesis polymerization(ROMP),using norbornene-based dodecafluoroheptanoate(NDF)as the monomer,dicyclopentadienyl dimethyl carbamate(NMBI)as the crosslinking agent,and liquid paraffin as the dispersion medium.[Results]The NDFG gel exhibits excellent mechanical properties(mechanical strength>0. 44 MPa) and anti-icing performance, maintaining a low ice shear strength of 14. 86 kPa at -20 ℃. Even after 15 freeze-thaw cycles,the ice shear strength remains as low as 27 kPa. In addition,the dynamic breakage and formation of hydrogenbonds endow the gels with good self-healing capabilities(self-healing efficiency >86. 36%).[Conclusion] The results showed that the organogels was an anti-icing material with excellent properties,becoming a promising application prospect in anti-icing field.
