Abstract

[Objective]Icing seriously threatens the safe operation of equipment such as aircraft, wind turbine blades, and high-speed trains, making it essential to develop protective coating thatexhibit both low ice-adhesion strength with excellent mechanical stability.[Methods]In this study,an epoxy-modified silicone coating system was constructed by incorporating epoxy resin with polyamide, hydroxyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane, and KH560. In this system, the inherent anti-icing property of silicone materials was preserved, while the mechanical strength of the coating was significantly enhanced.[Results]The prepared epoxy-modified silicone coating exhibited good hydrophobicity andlow surface energy. Even after sand erosion, the coating retained its structural integrity and stable anti-icing performance. Moreover,it demonstrated excellent adhesion on aluminum substrates, reaching a maximum rating of 4B,and formed strong interfacial bonding with an epoxy primer.[Conclusion]The anti-icing properties of silicone and the mechanical advantages of epoxy resin were successfullyintegrated in this work, providing a feasible technical solution for ice protection in extreme coldenvironments such as the underbodies of high-speed trains.
