Abstract

[Objective]To develop an intrinsic fluorescence-based monitoring strategy utilizingpolyamide 650 curing agent for real-time tracking of curing, aging, corrosion, and damage behaviors in epoxy coatings, enabling non-destructive service-life assessment.[Methods]The inherent fluorescence of polyamide 650 was employed to dynamically analyze curing and aging processes ofepoxy coatings via fluorescence spectroscopy. Corrosion behavior in 3. 5%NaCl solution was characterized using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS). Damage and corrosion zones were visualized through UV-excited fluorescence imaging.[Results]Complete curing of epoxy E51 coatings was achieved after 6 h at 80 ℃,with fluorescence intensity significantly increasing during cross-linked network formation. UV irradiation induced a rapid 20 min decline in fluorescence intensity and a 14 nmredshift in emission peaks;FT-IR confirmed amide group degradation as the primary aging mechanism. After 144 h immersion, the impedance modulus decreased to 107 Ω ·cm2,synchronizing with fluorescence attenuation. Fe3+ generated in marine environments exhibited fluorescence quenching, enabling corrosion warning. Graphene oxide(0. 1wt%)-reinforced composite coatings demonstratedenhanced corrosion resistance with retained fluorescence-based warning capability.[Conclusion]This intrinsic fluorescence technique facilitates dynamic,full-lifecycle monitoring of epoxy coatings.Quantitative correlations between fluorescence intensity and damage/corrosion severity provide reliableservice-life indicators without compromising coating performance via external probes, showing significant promise for marine anti-corrosion applications.
