Research of Color Paste for Acrylic Cathodic Electrophoretic Coatings

Abstract

[Objective] A colored paste suitable for acrylic cathodic electrophoretic coatingsystems was developed to solve the problems of poor stability and orange peel of traditional color pasteafter being matched with acrylate cathodic electrophoretic coating.[Methods] Functional acrylic monomers were used to prepare dispersion resin for color paste,and the effects of different monomer content,n(epoxy group)∶n(active hydrogen), pigment-base ratio,solid content,dispersant amount, and grinding on the stability and performance of color paste were studied.[Results] The results showed that by controlling the monomer HEA content of 14%-16%,BA content of 16%-17%,n(epoxy group)∶n(active hydrogen)of 1∶(1. 2-1. 4),and the amount of BY-190 dispersant 2%,and some key factors in the grinding process of pigment paste,colored paste with high storage stability(no precipitation for more than 6 months at room temperature)and excellent paint film appearance was successfully developed.[Conclusion]The decorative application of acrylic cathodic electrophoreticcoating in high-end fields such as electronic components,building hardware,anditary ware were significantly expanded by the color paste,while its optimized process parameters provide valuable guidance for industrial production.
