Abstract

[Objective] To solve the problems of difficult degradation of perfluorinated waterrepellent and poor durability of non-perfluorinated water repellent.[Methods]A self-crosslinkingnon-perfluorinated modified polyacrylate emulsion was synthesized by miniemulsion polymerizationusing 2,3,4,5,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-bis(trifluoromethyl)pentyl methacrylate(DFHMA),octadecyl acrylate(SA)and 1,2-dichloroethylene(VDC)as the main monomers,N-hydroxymethyl acrylamide(N-MA)as the self-crosslinking monomer. The effects of m(DFHMA)∶m(SA)and the amount of N-MA on the performance of the emulsion were studied. The structure and performance of the copolymerwere characterized by infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and thermogravimetric analyzer(TGA). Subsequently, the finishing process of the emulsion on the polyester fabric was optimized, and the application of the finished fabric was studied by contact angle and fabric water staining test.[Results]After finishing, the fabric maintained good water repellency(contact angle of 143. 4°,water repellency fraction of 100 points) and excellent durability(hold 88. 56% of the original contact angle after 320 cycles of friction;after washing 30 times, the water repellency fraction was 85% of the original value).[Conclusion]This study provides a feasible and sustainable designstrategy for the development of an environmentally friendly durable water repellent.
