Abstract

In the current power transmission system, cables below 35 kV are widely used. The outer protective structure of these cables, the cable sheath,is often subject to localizedcracking and damage. Due to a lack of effective on-site repair techniques, damaged cables often require full replacement, increasing maintenance time and costs. To solve this issue,a polyurea-based coating that meet usage standards has been developed. This coating can bedirectly applied to the damaged areas of the cable sheath, and the repair will be completed after curing and molding. Key characteristics include:surface drying within 1 hour, full drying within 12 hours;fully cured, the static water contact angle of the coating reaches 127 °,the tensile strength reaches 21 MPa,the breakdown voltage of 3 mm thick reaches 56 kV,the water absorption rate of 2. 7%,no changes after 720 hours of artificial climate aging, the fracture growth rate of 498%,and the wear resistance of 20 mg. This solution provides anefficient and reliable on-site repair method for distribution cable sheaths below 35 kV.
