Preparation of Novel Coating for Steel Plant Gas Pipelines and Its Anti-corrosion and Anti-scaling Mechanism

Abstract

Aiming at the issues of internal wall corrosion and adhesive dust in steel plant gas pipelines,a silicon polymer modified liquid resin-inorganic filler composite coating was prepared by sol-gel method using fumed silica,silicon carbide,colloidal graphite,flake graphene and silicon polymer modified liquid resin as raw materials. The wettability,mechanical strength,anticorrosive and anti-scaling properties of the coating were studied. The results showed that the coating exhibited,the surface energy was 25. 91 mJ/m2,which was 41. 58% lower than that of carbon steel,and the contact angle was 120. 1 °,exhibiting excellent hydrophobicity. The adhesion strength was grade 1,and almost unaffected bytemperature variations. The water contact angle remained greater than 105 ° after sandpaperabrasion,demonstrating good wear resistance. The maximum corrosion rates in sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and sodium chloride solutions were 12. 36 mg/(cm2.h),9. 89 mg/(cm2.h), and 2. 55 mg/(cm2.h),respectively,which was 73%,74%,and 83% lower than that of carbon steel. Additionally,the coating could effectively inhibit the crystallization and adhesion of NH4Cl. There were no significant corrosion or scaling was observed on the coated pipelinesurfaces in a five-month continuous corrosion and scaling resistance application test. Benefiting from the hydrophobic micro-nano structure formed by fumed silica molecules oncoating surface,"maze-like" structure created by the overlapping fillers,and the synergistic effects of colloidal graphite and silicon carbide,the coating showed excellent anticorrosive and anti-scaling properties.
