Abstract

This research developed a solvent-free phenolic epoxy coating for deepwaterequipment. The effects of the content and proportion of three kinds of phenolic epoxy resinwith different functionalities,the type of curing agent,the content of coupling agent,and the content of mica iron oxide on the film hardness,abrasion resistance,dry/wet adhesion,high pressure resistance,seawater immersion resistance,cathodic disbondment resistance,and chloride ion penetration resistance were investigated. The results showed that the solvent-freephenolic epoxy coating developed with m(DEN431)∶m(EPALLOY8240)=3∶1 as the main resin,1% coupling agent GX-560 by the mass of component A resin,20% mica iron oxide bymass of component A,and modified cyclic amine B as the curing agent. The performance of thedeveloped solvent-free phenolic epoxy coating was satisfied with the technical requirements of NORSOK M-501:2022 for coatings applied in immersion environments. The results of 12-month in-situ tests in 1 000 m deep water of the South China Sea showed that it indicatedexcellent long-term corrosion resistance in deep water.
