Abstract

Due to their exceptional optical properties and ease of processing,aluminum pigments were extensively utilized in the field of inks and coatings. However,it exhibited poor stability when incorporated into water-based systems,which could be effectively improved through the modification of aluminum pigments using a coating method. This paper provided a comprehensive review of recent advancements in the coating modification of aluminum pigments. The study analyzed the differences between different methods,including single-layer inorganic coating,single-layer organic coating,single-layer inorganic/organic coating,and double-layer inorganic/organic coating,in terms of maintaining the metal luster,enhancing corrosion resistance properties,improving compatibility,and stabilizing coloring. Furthermore,future development trends for water-based aluminum pigments were pointed out.
