Due to their exceptional optical properties and ease of processing，aluminum pigments were extensively utilized in the field of inks and coatings. However，it exhibited poor stability when incorporated into water-based systems，which could be effectively improved through the modification of aluminum pigments using a coating method. This paper provided a comprehensive review of recent advancements in the coating modification of aluminum pigments. The study analyzed the differences between different methods，including single-layer inorganic coating，single-layer organic coating，single-layer inorganic/organic coating，and double-layer inorganic/organic coating，in terms of maintaining the metal luster，enhancing corrosion resistance properties，improving compatibility，and stabilizing coloring. Furthermore，future development trends for water-based aluminum pigments were pointed out.
