Abstract

Compared with conventional self-healing anticorrosive coatings,graphene-based self-healing anticorrosive coatings had better self-healing efficiency and anticorrosiveproperties,which was attributed to the excellent energy conversion ability,shielding effect and physical properties of graphene-based materials. In this paper,the function of graphene in self-healing coatings,and the research and application of graphene-based self-healing coatings were discussed in detail. Firstly,two healing mechanisms of self-healing coatings were introduced:intrinsic self-healing mechanism and extrinsic self-healing mechanism. Secondly,the role of graphene derivatives in these two healing mechanisms was introduced. Inintrinsic self-healing materials,graphene derivatives mainly played a role in promoting energy conversion. In extrinsic self-healing materials,graphene derivatives was mainly used as amedium to carry various healing agents. The research progress of graphene-based self-healing coatings was described. Then,the effects of graphene derivatives on the mechanical propertiesand barrier effects of coatings were investigated. Finally,the actual application issues ofgraphene-based self-healing anticorrosive coatings and future development directions havebeen explored. It was investigated that there are still many limitations of coatings with singlehealing mechanism,and graphene-based self-healing coatings with multiple healingmechanisms and multifunctionality would be the new trend of development in the future,which should be verified in the field in combination with application environments before actualapplication.
