Research progress of intrinsic self-healing waterborne polyurethane

Abstract

Because of its unique self-healing ability and environmental friendliness,the intrinsic self-healing waterborne polyurethane coating is of great significance to improve thedurability of the coating and reduce the maintenance cost,and is the frontier field of current coating technology research. In this paper,the research progress of intrinsic self-healing waterborne polyurethane was reviewed,and its synthesis strategy,performance characteristicsand application potential in different fields were analyzed. The self-healing mechanism ofintrinsic self-healing waterborne polyurethane is mainly based on dynamic covalent and non-covalent bonds. Covalent bonds with different bond energies and characteristics can givewaterborne polyurethane different degrees of self-healing ability. Different dynamic non-covalent bonds also have their own advantages and limitations. Although there are still challenges in the synthesis process,cost-effectiveness and long-term stability,intrinsic self-healing waterborne polyurethane is expected to play a greater role in future material scienceand industrial applications through continuous research and innovation.
