 Research progress on external self-healing coating based on microcapsule technology

Abstract

Self-healing coating were an important means to improve the service life ofmaterials and coating. Developing external self-healing coating based on microencapsulationtechnology had important research and economic significance. Based on the recent progress ofmicroencapsulation technology and its application in external self-healing coating,the types and preparation methods of microcapsules were summarized in this paper,especially themicrofluidic technology was introduced. The resins commonly used in self-healing coatingwere reviewed,and the self-healing modes of the coating were described,especially the doublerepairing modes which had been developed rapidly in recent years. Finally,the application progress of microencapsulated self-healing coating was introduced. Microencapsulationtechnology and self-healing coating had been widely used and developed steadily,but there were still some problems in application and theory. The regulation of microcapsules,stable storage and controlled release of functional agents would be the focus of future research. Theprecise control and high efficiency of microfluidic technology would bring new development opportunities for microcapsules and self-healing coating.
