Abstract

In order to improve the application performance of C. I. Pigment Orange 68.Naphthol polyoxyethylene ether, alkyl diphenyl ether disulfonates and their mixtures were employed as the surfactant to modify C. I. Pigment Orange 68 crude. The color performance, particle sizes and distribution, together with surface polarity of modified pigments were measured,In addition, the dispersion stability of modified pigment in water was evaluated. The results showed that the incorporation of surfactant mixture presented a regulatory effect on the particle sizes and distribution of pigment. The pigment modified by 5% naphthol polyoxyethylene ether(EO=20) displayed the smallest particle diameter and the more concentrated particle size distribution. The combined action of naphthol polyoxyethylene ether and alkyl diphenyl ether disulfonates significantly intensified the surface polarity of modifiedpigment. In addition, the color performance of C. I. Pigment Orange 68 had been obviouslyimproved through incorporating the surfactant. The brightness of the modified pigment wasincreased(Δc=0. 84),the maximum color strength reached 114. 9%,the contact angle was reduced from 79° to 61°,and the hydrophilicity was significantly enhanced. The dispersionstability of modified pigment in water was significantly increased.
