Abstract

The traditional UV-curable polyurethane resins were terminated with double bonds, with fewer polar groups, which reduced the adhesion of the coating on the surface ofwood. This paper adopted a two-step method to introduce a multi hydroxyl hyperbranchedstructure into polyurethane systems prepared with different isocyanates and block them, synthesizing a UV-curable polyurethane wood coating containing multi hydroxylhyperbranched structure. The properties of UV-curable polyurethane resin and wood coatingswere investigated by gel permeation chromatography(GPC), nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR), fourier infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), dynamic thermal mechanical analysis(DMA). The results indicated that a polyhydroxy hyperbranched isocyanate with a molar ratio of —NCO to —OH of 1∶8 had been successfully prepared and introduced into polyurethane. Among them, the polyurethane with 1-isocyanato-4-[( 4-isocyanatocyclohexyl)methyl]-cyclohexane as the main component had a tensile strength of 34. 69 MPa,an elastic modulus of 10. 64 MPa,a glass transition temperature of 102. 02 ℃, and a paint film adhesion of level 0. This method provided an innovative solution for UV-curable PU wood coatings with high strength and adhesion.
