Preparation of Two-component Waterborne Epoxy Coatings with High Thixotropy and High Anti-sagging Resistance

Abstract

Two-component waterborne epoxy coatings have the problems of difficult adjustment of thixotropy and anti-sagging resistance. In this paper,a two-component waterborne epoxy coatings with high thixotropy,high anti-sagging and excellent comprehensive properties was prepared by the compounding of polyurethane association thickener and bentonite,and the  selecting emulsion-type amine curing agent to replace the commonly used water-soluble amine curing agent. The effects of the type and amount of thickeners and rheological additives,and the type of amine curing agent on the thixotropy,anti-sagging and other application properties of two-component waterborne epoxy coatings were investigated. The results show thatthere was a mutual promotion effect between the 6870 emulsion-type amine curing agent,299 thickener and LT bentonite. When the dosage of 299 thickener was 0. 5% and the dosage of LT bentonite was 0. 3%,with 6870 emulsion-type amine curing agent,it could produce a thixotropic index of 4. 5,anti-sagging limiting film thickness of 475 μm,and excellent comprehensive performance of two-component waterborne epoxy coatings.
