Abstract

To solve the flocculation problem of traditional dispersants in pigment dispersion system,a simple method of preparing super-dispersant was proposed. Differentrelative molecular weights of polyether amines were grafted onto the side chains of styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer(SMA) via imine method to prepare iminated styrene maleic anhydride(SMI) super dispersant, and its dispersion performance on TiO2 pigment was studied. Infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry were used to characterize the dispersants, and the dispersive properties of SMI were evaluatedby measuring the particle size and dispersion stability of TiO2 in toluene solvent. The results showed that the SMI dispersant was successfully prepared, and when using polyetheramine D-2000 to modify SMA,the prepared SMI dispersant had a good dispersion effect on the TiO2 suspension system(with almost no particle settling within 48 h),effectively preventingpigment particle aggregation.
