Research Progress on Thermal Insulation Properties of Intumescent Fire Retardant Coating for Steel Structure

Abstract

Accurate quantification of thermal insulation property is the key to the thickness design of fire retardant coating. The thermal insulation property of intumescent fire retardant coating for steel structure at high temperature is affected by the heating rate, and the thermal insulation properties of intumescent fire retardant coating deteriorate after they put into service. These characteristics present a challenge to the thickness design of intumescent fire retardant coating. The quantitative characterization methods on thermal insulation property of the coating were summarized in this paper. The effects of thermal insulation properties of the intumescent fire retardant coating were investigated, and the mechanism of differences in thermal insulation properties were discussed. The key scientific problems and solutions involved in the thickness design of intumescent fire retardant coating for steel structure were put forward.
