Abstract

Fire retardant coatings for steel structure with P-C-N (composed of ammonium polyphosphate APP, pentaerythritol PER, and melamine MEL) as the expansion system are widely used, but there are common problems such as poor water resistance and unsatisfactory fire and smoke suppression effects. This article took the optimization and development of P-C-N intumescent system as the main line, and sorted out and summarized the relevant research on intumescent fire retardant coatings for steel structure. It was found that optimizing the P-C-N expansion system through hydrophilic components and adding fillers such as carbon materials and transition metal compounds to the fire retardant coatings had achieved good results in synergistically improving the performance of the fire retardant coatings. However, the fire retardant coatings still could not be solved well. With the development requirements of environmental durability and efficient fire protection, the development of new expansion systems had become a current research hotspot.
