Abstract

In order to enhance the fire and smoke suppression properties of fire retardant coatings for steel structure, the epoxy resinEP/polyamide resinPA system was used as the film-forming polymer to prepare intumescent fire retardant coatings. The effects and regularities of EP/PA ratio on the fire and smoke suppression properties of the intumescent fire retardant coatings for steel structure were systematically analyzed by cone heatersmoke density testerthermogravimetric analysisTG and scanning electron microscopySEM. The results showed that the fire and smoke suppression properties were closed related to the ratio of EP/PA. When the mass ratio of EP/PA was 32the obtained coating could form more phosphorus-containing cross-linking structures during combustionshowing optimal fire smoke suppression and char formation effects. The residual carbon rate of the coating at 800
