Effect of Compounded Functional Fllers on Anticorrosive Performance of Solvent-free Epoxy Coating

Abstract

This paper studied the influence of different kinds of functional fillers on solvent-free epoxy coating performance. Micaceous iron oxide and calcium exchange SiO2 were selected as the antirust fillers to enhance the corrosion resistance of the coatings. Barium sulphate precipitated with ceramic powder were used to improve the wear resistance of the coatings,and solvent-free epoxy coatings with different filler compounds were prepared by orthogonal test method at the appropriate pigment/binder ratio. The effects of the mass ratio of the fillers on the coating properties were analyzed and studied by basic physical property tests,electrochemical impedance tests(EIS),and salt spray resistance tests. The results showed that the prepared coating possessed high impedance(Rc)along with excellent physical properties,at the mass ratio of film-forming substance to filler of 3∶2,filler to antirust filler of 1∶1,ceramic powder to precipitated barium sulfate of 2∶1,and micaceous iron oxide to calcium-exchanged SiO2 of 3∶1. The coating impedance could still remain at 6. 486×1010 Ω·cm2 after soaking in 3. 5%NaCl solution for 3 000 h,showing good corrosion resistance.
