Hydrogel is an ideal antifouling material，so the design and application ofhydrogel-based antifouling coating materials have attracted extensive attention. This workaims to summarize the application and research of hydrogel-based coating in the field ofmarine antifouling. Herein，the hazards of marine fouling organisms were introduced，the antifouling mechanism of hydrogels was explained，and the domestic and international research progress of pure hydrogel coating materials and hydrogel-organic resin coating materials wasemphatically reviewed. For pure hydrogel coating materials，the improvement of mechanical properties，adhesion and antifouling performance should be focused on. For hydrogel-organic resin coating，the compatibility issues between hydrogel and resin，and the exploration of hydrogel addition should be paid attention to. Finally，the existing challenges and development directions of hydrogel-based antifouling coating materials were indicated.
