Abstract

Acid catalysts could enable amino baking coatings to quickly react at lowertemperature or in a shorter time. It was beneficial to design more effective formulations afterunderstanding the effects of different acid catalysts in waterborne amino baking coatings. Inthis paper, five types of acid catalysts, blocked p-toluene sulfonic acid, dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid, blocked dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid, dinonylnaphthalene sulfonic acid, and dinonylnaphthalene disulfonic acid, were added to different types of waterborne amino baking coatings,to compare the viscosity and storage stability of the coating, the difference in pencil hardness, impact resistance, solvent resistance, and boiling resistance of the coating film under twobaking conditions of 150℃ and 200℃. The results showed that the blocked dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid could increase hardness and solvent resistance of the film, meanwhile, indicated less effects on the viscosity, film appearance, impact resistance, the resistance to boiling water and storage stability. The blocked p-toluene sulfonic acid showed significant effects onhardness and solvent resistance improvement, but adversed to film appearance, impact, and boiling water resistance.
