Abstract

In this work, waterborne chlorinated polypropylene(CPP) emulsion was prepared by phase inversion method with chlorinated polypropylene and toluene as rawmaterial and solvent. The emulsifying effects of ten kinds of cationic surfactants and 40 kindsof nonionic surfactants were investigated. The impacts of emulsifying temperature, emulsifyingtime, and surfactant dosage on the particle size of the emulsion and the adhesion of the coatingwere revealed, and the optimal preparation conditions of the emulsion were determined. The stability, particle size distribution of emulsion, hardness, solvent resistance, contact angle, and surface energy of coating were characterized. The results showed that the optimal cationic and nonionic surfactants were cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(C16TAB) and octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether(OP-50), respectively. The wettability of the emulsion could beimproved by adding 3% polyether-modified siloxanes(PMS) in OP-50. The optimal emulsification temperature was 50-60 ℃,the emulsification time was 30-60 min,and the surfactant dosage was 7%-8%. Under these conditions, the particle size of the emulsion was 762-808 nm,the stability was good, the polydispersity coefficient was 0. 185-0. 194,the adhesion of the coating was 1-0 level, the hardness was H,and the surface energy was higher than that of the typical topcoat, met the application requirements.
