Performance Testing Methods of Silyl Ester Acrylate Based Long-term Self-polishing Antifouling Coating

Abstract

In this paper,the ship sailing condition was simulated by the dynamic seawater simulation device,and the dynamic changes of coating surface physical characteristics was studied by periodically testing the changes of the parameters(thickness,surface roughness, 
surface morphology,polishing rate)related to the antifouling performance of the silyl ester acrylate based coating with time. The resistance to fresh water immersion and atmospheric exposure,as well as the real-sea static immersion of the coating were tested. The experimental results showed that the antifouling coating had excellent resistance to atmospheric exposure and fresh water immersion,and the antifouling period could reach 60 months according to theraft testing in the North Sea,which could meet the long-term antifouling requirements ofunderwater facilities. The low-cost and rapid evaluation of antifouling performance could beachieved by combing the dynamic simulation and static immersion test. This method could notonly be used to evaluate the antifouling performance,but also to screen and improve coating formulations,accelerating the development of antifouling coatings.
