Study on Preparation of Fluorinated Acrylate Copolymer Latice through Mini-Emulsion Polymerization

Abstract

A series of latice based on fluorinated acrylate(FA)copolymers were prepared through mini-emulsion polymerization and were characterized by FT-IR,PSA,TEM,AFM,TG,and SEM-EDS. The influences of molar ratio of emulsifier(SDS)and co-emulsifier(HD),the FA amount and the ultrasonic time on the particle size of above lattice were investigated in detail. The results showed that three kinds of monomers(6FA,BA and St)were successfully copolymerized. When the molar ratio of SDS/HD was 1. 5∶1,the ultrasonic time was 6 min and the FA amount was 10%,the resulted latice showed the smallest particle size and the narrower distribution. Furthermore,the surface tension of latex decreased from 45. 028 mN / m to 33. 399 mN / m. At the same time,the roughness of the latex films was increased and the thermal stability was enhanced.
