In order to deeply understand the curing reaction,the driers used and autoxidation mechanism of air-dried alkyd resins,the autoxidation curing mechanism of air-dried alkyd coatings was discussed based on the latest literature at home and abroad,including induction stage,peroxide formation stage,peroxide decomposition stage and polymerization stage. The composition,preparation,types and drying mechanism of the driers weresummerized systematically. The research status of driers used in waterborne alkyd coatingswere also reviewed. It was found that the highly effective and non-toxic environmental friendlydriers will be the development tread in air-drying alkyd coatings.
