The automobile wheel hubs were coated by a new process of magnetron sputtering(PVD).The surface morphology and the UV transmittance of the PVD coatings underdifferent sputtering powers were studied. The xenon lamp accelerated weathering test wascarried out on the paint films sprayed with two different media powders(polyester media powder and ordinary media powder)below the PVD coatings,and the color,brightness,color difference and adhesion of the two paint films before and after weathering were compared.Theresults showed that PVD coatings provided good shielding effect on ultraviolet light.The paintfilm obtained by using two kinds of media powder showed the same effects on gloss retentionand brightness,especially the color difference and the adhesion obtained by using polyestermedia powder were much better.
