Abstract

This article has described a waterborne polyester resin modified by triglycidyl isocyanurate( TGIC)with three end-epoxy groups.The carboxyl groups were reacted withepoxy groups to form ester bond and hydroxyl groups and further reaction leading to a 6-branched island structure waterborne polyester resin.The microstructure of the TGIC modifiedwaterborne polyester was analyzed by FT-IR,X-ray diffraction(XRD)and Gel Permeation Chromatography(GPC). The effects of TGIC,pentaerythritol and trimethylolpropane,as the branching components,on the storage stability,T-bend,heat resistance,boiling-water resistance,solvent resistance of the waterborne polyester,were compared.The results showedthat the waterborne polyester resin modified by TGIC provided better T-bend and heatresistance,as well as the solvent scrubbing resistance,boiling-water resistance and chemical resistance,which were comparable to the waterborne polyester produced with other aliphaticbranching monomers.
