Abstract

In this paper,the structure and performance of poly(vinyl chloride-co-isobutyl vinyl ether)(PVC-co-IVE)resin,some main stream and mature synthesis technology, modification methods and its application in coatings were reviewed. Some methods of suspension and emulsion polymerization for preparation of PVC-co-IVE resin were discussed. Either wateborne thermal initiator or redox initiator could be used to prepared PVC-co-IVE resin by emulsion polymerization. At present,the modification of PVC-co-IVE resin were mainly based on acrylic resin,epoxy resin,nano-silica and nano-titanium dioxide etc. The properties of modified PVC-co-IVE resin had been significantly improved,expanding its application range. Now,the main application was focused on anticorrosive coatings,antifouling coatings,fireproof coatings,even conductive coatings.In conclusion,the study of synthesis, modification and application of PVC-co-IVE resin abroad and at home needed to be speed up and deepened.
