Status of Application of Protection Coatings on Reinforced Concrete Surface in China

Abstract

The reinforced concrete served in harsh environment is easy to be attacked by environmental media such as chlorine ion,reducing the service life of the structures and even affecting the safety operation of the structures. Using protective coatings(barrier or permeable)
on concrete surface is one of the protective measures for reinforced concrete,which has been applied in many projects. This paper mainly introduced the application of concrete surface coatings in transportation,railway and water conservancy industries in China,especially the
application of organic coatings and silicone impregnating agents,including the specifications and requirements in domestic regulations. Finally,some suggestions on the research,development and application of concrete surface protective coatings in the future were proposed.
