Preparation and Properties of Liquid Petroleum Resin Based Waterborne Epoxy Anticorrosion Coating

Abstract

A waterborne epoxy corrosion protective coatings was prepared with waterborneepoxy emulsion as the matrix and mixed with amodified petroleum resin used as hybridemulsion. Its structure and properties were characterized by infrared spectrometer,laser particle size analyzer,contact angle measurement and thermo-gravimetric analyzer. Theperformance was also tested in terms of drying time,water resistance and neutral salt fogresistance. The results showed that the tack-freetime and the thorough dry time of the coatingswere 26 min and 15 h,respectively. The mechanical properties were also outstanding with alow VOC content of only 48 g/L. The water resistance and neutral salt fog test reached 800 hand 840 h respectively,demonstrating excellent corrosion resistance performance.
