The FRP-ceramic composites have the advantages of both FRP and ceramics, which can meet the requirement of railway vehicles,such as lightweight,long-service-life and high security. High performance ceramic composite coatings for glass fiber reinforced plastics(FRP) was developed and formulated. The effect of types and amount of flexibility-enhancement latex on the properties of ceramic composite coatings was investigated. This coatings provided not only strong adhesion,high gloss,excellent contamination resistance and wear-resistant properties,but also the ability to decrease the heat release rate and toxic gas release rate of FRP at high temperature. It was found that no simple positive correlation existed between the wear-resistance and the hardness of coatings. Instead,ceramic coatings with properly designed flexibility was more preferent for wearproof than that with higher hardness.Finally,how the application process affected the product appearance of irregular FRP seats was studied to provide a proper application technology.
