Study on Synthesis and Properties of One-Component Polymerizable Thioxanthone Photoinitiator

Abstract

Thioxanthone(TX) and its derivatives have broad application prospects for their excellent absorption properties in the near UV range,high hydrogen scavenging capacity and ease of adjusting with LED light source. Herein,the design and synthesis of an interesting one-component polymerizable TX bearing tertiary amine photoinitiator was reported,which is liquid at ambient temperature and displays excellent solubility in several solvents. It shows strong absorption in the wavelength range of 390-405 nm with molar extinction coefficient up to 104. Compared to the commercially available TX compounds,its maximum of absorption experiences a red shift of ca. 15-20 nm,indicating there exist a fast intermolecular charge transfer process,and the mobility decreased from 17. 6%to 6. 2%. The photolysis study showsit possess the ability for photobleaching. Our preliminary study demonstrates this TX compound has high photoinitiation efficiency and good compatibility with various monomers.
