With the increasing demand on environmental protection in China recently years, the replacement of the solvent-based coatings by waterborne coatings applied in construction machinery is imperative. In this article, the performance index of waterborne coatings, coating process of construction machine, typical coating defects and solutions thereto, reformation of waterborne coating production line and its wastewater treatment, etc. are discussed. The results show that the performance of waterborne coating is not inferior to the solvent-based coating. The construction efficiency is desirable if the construction conditions and reformation of the production lines are suitable. In addition, the selection of suitable paint spray flocculant can effectively separate the lacquer slag and enable the treated wastewater to be recycled.
