Abstract

Solar reflective coatings with different hue, lightness and texture are prepared, and separately coated with silicon modified acrylic resins and nano-titanium dioxide hydrosol in order to investigate the effects of these antifouling layers on the solar reflective sustainability of the protective coating over natural aging. The result shows that for the flat-paint system, the layers comprising nano-titanium dioxide hydrosol does not affect the initial gloss and hue of the protective coatings but improve the dirt-resistance and the sustainability of the solar reflective property, particularly in medium and high brightness samples, therefore it can be used for the promotion of the existing products. When applied on the sand-textured coatings, nano titanium dioxide hydrosol also has better performance as compared with the silicon modified acrylic resins, showing considerable increase in dirt-resistance and reflectance sustainability. But for this kind of coatings, the dirt can not be effectually self-cleaned due to the roughness of the textured surface, indicating that the reflectance sustainability of these coatings are mainly dominated by their texture and lightness.
