Development of MEK-Resistant Polyurethane Primer for Coil Coatings

A polyester resin for coil polyurethane primer has been synthesized. The effects of polyester resin with different number of terminal hydroxyl groups and the mass ratio of resin and crosslinking agent on MEK resistant performance of polyurethane primer and its matchable system have been investigated.The experimental results show that the increase of the number of terminal hydroxyl groups of polyester resin can improve the MEK resistant performance of the primer without sacrificing the flexibility. In particular, as the mass ratio of resin and crosslinking agent is 70/30, the optimal MEK resistant performance reaching up to 200 times is obtained.
