A new type of waterborne poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) emulsion is studied by means of laser particle size analyzer, SEM, FT-IR and 1H NMR. It is verified that the waterborne PVDF emulsion has a core-shell structure. In order to enhance its application performance, a two-component waterborne acrylic resin is one of the most promising materials for core-shell structure waterborne PVDF modification. However, the miscibility of the blend is the key influential factor on it. The results show that the polyurethane cured A2470 acrylic resin is partially compatible with the waterborne PVDF as observed by SEM, FT-IR and DSC. The interface of the “sea-island” phase is blurred and fewer; FT-IR peaks associated with the C-F bond are shifted to a certain extent, and the melting point of waterborne PVDF resin in blends moves 5 ℃ towards the low temperature direction, which is the best in blends of polyurethane cured acrylic resin and waterborne poly(vinylidene fluoride).
