Research Progress in Phase Inversion Emulsification Technique of Epoxy Resin

The theoretical basis of phase inversion was briefly introduced in this paper, and the relevant research progress in the preparation of waterborne epoxy resin emulsion by phase inversion emulsification was described, including the process and classification of phase inversion emulsification, and the factors (such as the types and content of emulsifiers, the emulsifying temperature and the rate of shear, etc) influencing the stability of epoxy resin emulsion. The primal problems for this field were also presented, covering the strict demand on emulsifiers, the higher production costs and the properties of the cured resin needing to be solved. It is indicated that the development trend of waterborne epoxy resin should be focused on how to further increase the efficiency of emulsifiers and to improve the performance of cured products, meanwhile, meet the requirements of production costs so as to further industrialization.
