Accelerated Weathering Degradation Behavior of Polyurethane Anticorrosion Coating

Accelerated aging tests including Xe-lamp UVA and UVB are done on polyurethane anticorrosion coating/carbon steel system. The aging procedure and aging mechanisms of T-018(RDG) are concluded based on macro-properties such as the color difference and the loss of gloss. The microstructure is shown by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Results show that the color difference can be seen an upward trend in every kind of laboratory accelerated aging tests, while the variation trend of the loss of gloss was significant. The results of microstructure analysis show that the hydrolysis degradation occurs noticeably at the beginning of Xe-lamp aging test and then photo oxidation degradation occurs noticeably. The photo oxidation degradation occurs in the late stage of the UVA test and in the early stage of the UVB test.
