Gloss is one of the important optical properties of coatings due to its strong impact on visual perception and aesthetic preference. In order to control gloss of waterborne polyurethane coatings, it is necessary to better understand the relationship between the coatings gloss and the resin structure. In this article,the theory of coatings gloss was introduced and the relationship between the coatings gloss and the characteristics of aqueous polyurethane dispersions(e.g., refractive index, particle size, surface roughness and film-forming process) was discussed.
