The application of different structure types of substrate wetting agents inwaterborne coatings was evaluated comprehensively in this paper. The surface tension(γlg), hydrolytic stability, and bubble inhibition of silicone and non-silicon substrate wetting agentswith different chemical structures in aqueous solution,as well as the surface tension(γlg) applied to water-borne coatings, the initial surface wetting effect of the substrate, the wettingeffect of the substrate after heat storage, and the influence on the bubble inhibition of the water-borne coating system were discussed. The results showed that the influence of substrate wettingagents with different structure on the surface tension(γlg)of water-borne coatings would bereduced compared with that of aqueous solution. The wetting effect of the substrate would beaffected by surface tension(γlg)and surface tension(γsl)of water-borne coatings. The stabilityof the wetting effect of the substrate would be affected by the chemical structure of the substrate wetting agent. The wetting agents with different structure of silicon substrate indicated differentdegree of hydrolytic stability problems, while the star polyether substrate wetting agents withanti-hydrolytic stability maintain higher wetting effect and stability. The bubble inhibition ofsubstrate wetting agent aqueous solution with different structure would show great difference, but the difference was not obvious in water-borne coatings.
